Other free attractions include the Allerton Park and Retreat Center with formal gardens, 100 outdoor sculptures and 14 miles of hiking trails that surround a historic mansion. Many of Springfield’s famous museums offer free days such as Decatur’s Scovill Zoo, the Children’s Museum of Illinois, and the Children’s Discovery Museum not too far away in Normal, IL. 


Of course Springfield is home to many seasonal favorites such as the Old Capitol Art Fair in downtown Springfield that kicks off every May.
